Subterra – A Wine Cellar Restaurant to feature Bells Up Winery wines throughout month of October

Subterra to feature Bells Up Winery wines throughout October 2016.

Janet and Martin Bleck, owners of Subterra – A Wine Cellar Restaurant will feature Bells Up Wines in October.

Subterra – A Wine Cellar Restaurant has selected Newberg’s Bells Up Winery as the establishment’s featured winery of the month for October 2016. Three of Bells Up’s wines will be showcased in the restaurant and available by the glass or the bottle for enjoyment with a meal, or by the bottle to take home. The wine selections include:

  • 2014 Rhapsody Pinot Blanc
  • 2013 Titan Willamette Valley AVA Pinot Noir
  • 2014 Firebird Walla Walla Valley AVA Syrah

Additionally, Bells Up’s winemaker and owner Dave Specter will pour tastings of all three wines at Subterra on Friday, October 7 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. as part of Newberg’s First Friday Artwalk event.

Subterra has a long history of supporting local wineries, featuring a different label from the Willamette Valley monthly since owners Janet and Martin Bleck established the restaurant in January 2010. Located at the intersection of 99W and Villa Road in Newberg, at 1505 Portland Road (beneath Dark Horse wine bar) Subterra is open daily for lunch and dinner. Its menu reflects an innovative patchwork of complex, bold flavors pieced together from varied cuisines and brought together with classical technique.

“It’s very exciting to be invited to showcase Bells Up wines at Subterra,” says Specter. “We were thrilled when they featured our 2015 Prelude Rosé of Pinot Noir in the spring as part of their celebration of rosé wines, and then continued to offer it by the glass throughout the summer. I really appreciate Janet and Martin’s support of our wines.”

The label is one of Newberg’s newest micro-boutique wineries—making approximately 400 cases annually—and is always open by appointment. Bells Up produces handcrafted, classically-styled Oregon Pinot Noir with grapes sourced primarily from micro-growers located on the northern side of the Willamette Valley. It also offers a small selection of other Oregon-grown and produced varietals.

The name “Bells Up” is a reference to a dramatic moment in classical music where the composer instructs French horn players to lift the bells of their instruments upward and project their sound with maximum intensity. Specter, a French horn player who performed in bands and symphonic groups throughout high school and college, says the winery is his “Bells Up” moment.
