subterralogoStarting today, Saturday, October 1, 2016, Bells Up Winery becomes the featured winery of the month at Subterra – A Wine Cellar Restaurant. Three of Bells Up’s wines will be showcased in the restaurant and available by the glass or the bottle for enjoyment with a meal, or by the bottle to take home.

aginfobrown-logo2Winemaker Dave was interviewed by phone last week by journalist Susan Allen of the Fruit Grower Report for the weekly “Vine to Wine Wednesday” segment about the partnership between Subterra and Bells Up for the month of October. Here’s the interview, which aired on September 21, 2016 (or, you can read the transcript at the bottom of the page):

As Dave explains, Subterra has had Bells Up Prelude Rosé of Pinot Noir available by the glass all summer. A few bottles are still available at the restaurant, while the featured October wine selections include:

  • 2014 Rhapsody Pinot Blanc
  • 2013 Titan Willamette Valley AVA Pinot Noir
  • 2014 Firebird Walla Walla Valley AVA Syrah

Although you can enjoy Bells Up’s featured wines anytime through October while dining at Subterra, on Friday, October 7 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Dave will be onsite to pour tastings of all three wines as part of Newberg’s First Friday Artwalk event.

Subterra has a long history of supporting local wineries, featuring a different label from the Willamette Valley monthly since owners Janet and Martin Bleck established the restaurant in January 2010. Located at the intersection of 99W and Villa Road in Newberg, at 1505 Portland Road (beneath Dark Horse wine bar) Subterra is open daily for lunch and dinner. Reservations are recommended, but not required.

Bells Up Micro-Boutique Winery Served In Subterra

by Susan Allen for The Fruit Grower Report

With Vine to Wine Wednesday, I’m Susan Allen. What made Napa Valley special when I lived there in the early 80’s is what makes Newberg and so many of or other NW wine regions amazing today! The many Micro-boutiques.

Back then we called them “small family owned wineries. Bells Up, whose first wines were released last year, will be the featured winery of the month for October in at the renowned wine cellar restaurant, Subterra in Newberg. Named not only for the road the winery is on, but the dramatic moment in classical music when French horn players lift the bells up. For Musician and now winemaker Dave Specter, his winery is his “Bells Up” moment. He tells the wines Subterra has selected:

SPECTER: They are featuring three, actually there is a fourth they have had on glass pour for the last month or so. The one that they have had and I believe still do have is our 2015 Prelude Rosé of Pinot Noir It’s a fuller bodied Rose. 100 percent pinot noir. Now the three that we are going to be featuring for next month is our Pinot Blanc; we call that the 2014Rhapsody Pinot Blanc , our Pinot Blanc is an unoaked and an excellent pairing with seafood, and Subterra, of course, has a lot of seafood offerings.

The two other wine selections include: The 2013 Titan Willamette Valley AVA Pinot Noir and 2014 Firebird Walla Walla Valley AVA Syrah. Bells Up produces handcrafted, classically-styled Oregon Pinot Noir and Dave will be at Subterra to pour tastings of all three wines on Friday, October 7 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., as part of Newberg’s Artwalk.
