As an offshoot of the attention we’ve been blessed to receive from Tony Kornheiser (pictured below), sportswriter for The Washington Post, ESPN personality (PTI | Pardon the Interruption), and Podcaster (The Tony Kornheiser Show), Dave was invited to be a guest on The Loyal Littles Podcast. Produced and hosted by Littles Chuck and Roxy, each episode features an in-depth interview with a “Little” (the term used to describe fans of Tony Kornheiser).
The episode featuring Dave, “New Year…..same old STINKY podcast” debuted on January 2, 2021. Dave’s 45-minute interview begins at the 16:15 mark of the show.
During the interview, Dave recounts to Chuck and Roxy how the initial shout out from Tony came to be. Dave, who previously listened to Tony’s radio show that predated the podcast, recalled: “I really wanted to send wine to Tony as a way to say, thank you so much for keeping me sane through years in my previous career. And I, you know, I’ve almost sent that email a million times and I never did it. But then when Duska [Jensen, Madam Ambassador at Willamette Valley Wineries] sent her email…within a couple of hours I had put out my first email [to Tony].”
Chuck also asks Dave for more details about how Bells Up was anointed by Great Northwest Wine’s Eric Degerman as the “Unofficial Chehalem Mountains Winery of The Tony Kornheiser Show.” Dave also shares our story, his thoughts on “Merlot versus Chardonnay” (yes, really), his recollections of Coke II, sports talk about his masochistic love for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and how the attention from Tony’s podcast and introduction to numerous Loyal Littles helped the winery salvage a year where our ability to host tastings and sell wine in person were severely hampered by the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic.
Also, as a result of the appearance on The Loyal Littles Podcast, Boston-based artist Eric Londergan—who has created numerous illustrations of Loyal Littles—immortalized Dave in his very own caricature, pictured above! (Although Dave’s hair isn’t quite that gray yet, it’s getting there…)
