Missy Maki of The Simple Kitchen Shares an In-Studio #bellsupmoment with Winemaker Dave Specter

This past Sunday, November 12, Dave was invited into The Simple Kitchen radio studio to talk wine and share a #bellsupmoment with host Missy Maki, a self-described 90s “Wild Child” who’s now a working corporate twin-mom and doting wife, who shares her passion about food and wine and life at Maki Family Values.

Missy, who created the show on KPAM 860AM radio six years ago as a chance to talk food and drink with chefs, winemakers and other foodies and food lovers in the Portland area, is currently on her farewell tour as she winds down the show. So we were doubly excited to be invited as a guest for a single segment (which wound up stretching into TWO segments—perhaps because Dave brought in wine and grape pie).

We first met Missy and her husband in person back in July, when they joined us for a private wine tasting while on a mini stay-cation at The Vintages in the Willamette Valley. We were stunned to discover that it was actually their first by appointment private wine tasting, as she mentions in the broadcast.

Coach and Missy Maki have a #bellsupmoment on the #wineporch over the summer. The way Missy is on the radio? EXACTLY THE SAME in person. So much fun.

Dave appears in the second and third segments of the show. Below, the commercial-free recording of the first half of the episode, shared below courtesy of Maki’s website. In the first segment of the interview, Dave and Missy do some chair dancing to a little ditty that took us back to our Midwestern roots, and Dave shares our backstory and they talk wine and alternative glassware for wine consumption (wine WAS tasted during this episode).

Chair dancing to a certain song about our previous hometown, MIssy and Dave get down without having to get up.

In the second segment of the interview, Dave explains how to find us (which you’ll want to know if you’re coming to either one of our Herald the Holidays Open House events before and after Thanksgiving), how Fanfare Club differs from other wine clubs, Dave’s winemaking style, and why we embrace vintage variation year-over-year.

While we will miss hearing The Simple Kitchen on our radio on Sunday mornings, we look forward to our continued friendship with Missy AND with following her blog, Maki Family Values.
