Named for Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 in D Major “Titan,” the 2021 vintage of our flagship Pinot Noir Titan combines 8-year-old Pommard (22.3%) vines from Bells Up’s estate vineyard (volcanic Jory soil) with Dijon Clones 115 (38.8%) and 777 (38.8%) from MonksGate Vineyard’s Yamhill-Carlton AVA vines — 19- and 20-year-old vines respectively. The wine aged 12 months in French oak (27% new). The resulting 2021 Titan displays an elegant, rounded mouthfeel, accompanied by earthy and dark red fruit flavors. Its balanced structure and acidity offer enhanced aging potential over the next seven to 10 years.

This estate Reserve Pinot Noir honors Maestro John Williams, whose beloved cinematic scores — featuring multiple French Horn themes — have moved audiences for seven decades. Maestro is composed to highlight the high-toned characteristics of Dijon clone 943, which is exceedingly rare in the Willamette Valley. The 2022 vintage has 50% 943 blended with 25% 667, 12.5% Pommard, and 12.5% 113, all grown in volcanic Jory soil. The resulting Maestro displays its trademark “soaring shape” on the palate, with a bright, elegant quality and red-fruit flavors — complemented by a balanced structure and sufficient acidity to enrich its mouthfeel.

Named for Leonard Bernstein’s operetta of the same name (which was based on the 1759 novella by Voltaire), the 2021 Candide was made with Wadenswil (87%) and Pommard (10%) Heritage clones, plus a splash of Dijon Clone 113 (3%)—all from our estate vineyard. The 113 added some savoriness to a wine known for its spicy, peppery character and “fireworks shape” on the palate. The resulting wine displays an elegant, earthy quality and red-fruit flavors—complemented by sufficient acidity to enrich its mouthfeel. It showcases the spicier characteristics of Wadenswil, enhanced by the minerality and warmth imparted by our volcanic Jory soil.

In 2021 we once again sourced Cabernet Sauvignon from our long-standing Syrah grower, Summit View Vineyard in Milton-Freewater, OR. This silky, lower tannin Cab for Pinot lovers pays tribute to Antonin Dvořák’s “New World Symphony No. 9 in E Minor, Op. 95.” Grown at 1,150 feet in elevation in the Walla Walla Valley AVA, the site’s deep, well-drained glacial soil produces full-bodied fruit with intense flavors and vibrant acidity. Aged 12 months in French oak.
