2020 New World (Fanfare Club Exclusive) – SOLD OUT

Summit View Vineyard ∞ Walla Walla Valley AVA Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

ONLY available to members of Fanfare Club. ONLY 65 cases produced. $68

Thanks to the unexpected events surrounding harvest 2020, we sourced Cabernet Sauvignon from our long-standing Syrah grower, Summit View Vineyard in Milton-Freewater, OR for the first time. This silky, lower tannin Cab for Pinot lovers pays tribute to Antonin Dvořák’s “New World Symphony No. 9 in E Minor, Op. 95.” Grown at 1,150 feet in elevation in the Walla Walla Valley AVA, the site’s deep, well-drained glacial soil produces full-bodied fruit with intense flavors and vibrant acidity. Aged 12 months in French oak.

NOSE: Fresh green padrone plant, black cherry, dark chocolate, black plum, vanilla, black pepper, leather.

PALATE: Elegant, well-balanced, and full bodied with smooth tannins and a velvety texture. Hints of black currant, black pepper, vanilla, cassis, black cherry, and fresh herbs.

TECHNICAL NOTES

Jeff Kralik (The Drunken Cyclist) Review: Only available through Bells Up’s Fanfare Club. Dave wanted to make more of a new world cab. Thus, New World. Dvořák. From the same vineyard as the Syrah and will be bottled this fall. Shy on the nose but lovely fruit eventually coaxed out. Also described as a “Cab for Pinot lovers.” Fantastic. Fruity with depth and complexity. Yowza. Tannins are soft and mostly integrated. Another whoa. Outstanding. 93-96 Points (Barrel sample).

Marlynn Schotland (Urban Bliss Life) Review: This is a Cab like no other. It has the characteristic black cherry flavors and full body of a Cab, but the tannins are softer and silky smooth and there’s a hint of pepper. It drinks like a dream now but I’m also excited to taste one of the bottles we bought in a few years, as I think it will age beautifully!

Anatoli Levine (Talk-A-Vino) Review: A hint of green bell pepper; Cassis, a hint of black pepper on the finish, good, round, smoky undertones (Barrel sample).

AdVINEtures Review: Fruit comes from the same Summit View Vineyard on the Oregon side of the Walla Walla Valley AVA. Black cherry dominates the flavour and the aromatic profile. The wine is intense yet elegant as well. Medium tannin and medium+ acidity suggest this wine should be as long-lived as other Washington Cabs. Hints of cigar box and old leather add complexity to the aromas. Really delicious! Excellent

Winery Reflections Review: An energetic yet thoroughly dense core of black cherry, mulberry, spiced cranberry, blueberry, and licorice leads an expressive and irresistibly lively display packed with fragrant floral tones of rose, lavender, and carnations. Notes of eucalyptus, fallen leaves, and red bell pepper gently contribute well-integrated organic complexity that seamlessly intertwines with herbal suggestions of anise, rosemary, sage, and mint. Hints of roasted coffee bean, toffee, and dark chocolate contribute just a pinch of balanced decadence while mild wafts of cigar tobacco, dark minerality, and smoke provide a lightly rugged twist… This brilliantly shines with a juicy yet rich medley of black, blue, and red fruits that are concentrated yet still impressively weightless, and it backs them with gorgeously aromatic floral tones, forest-led organic character, complex herbs, rugged smokiness, and just a bit of chocolaty charm. It is approachable today with a modest decant yet boasts the structure to age for decades, and is sure to impress those who enjoy finesse, balance, and restraint. Wow.
