2022 Joy – SOLD OUT
Estate Vineyard ∞ Chehalem Mountains AVA Seyval Blanc Brut
39 cases produced. | $48 *SOLD OUT*
Made from the first and only planting of Seyval Blanc in the Willamette Valley (second in Oregon), Joy is named for Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 in D Minor, “Ode to Joy.” Grown in Bells Up’s vineyard, this hybrid wine grape is found mainly in the Midwest – our former home – and East Coast. It is also grown in England, where it is frequently produced as a sparkling wine. This, our first-ever bubbles, is made the same way as our still Seyval Blanc, Helios – fermented to dry, then receiving an extended sur lie treatment to build body and character. To produce Joy, the wine is then lightly dosaged and carbonated.
NOSE: Apricot, Orange Blossom, Bosc Pear, Wildflower Honey, Pink Starburst
PALATE: Honeyed Apple, Orange Blossom, Lemon Verbena, Balanced Acid, Creamy Mid-Palate
Tamara Belgard Turner, Oregon Wine Press: Buttery in color, with a delicate mousse, Joy introduces itself with aromas of bright citrus and Anjou pear. The palate explodes, as layers of lemon cookies, candied pineapple, papaya, savory olive, and an herbaceous finish of thyme are revealed. Oregon Seyval Blanc really seems to find itself in a sparkling wine; with mouth-watering acidity and a deep and complex flavor profile that makes this wine memorable, it’s an absolute pleasure to drink – no wonder it’s called Joy.
