The Willamette Valley’s first-ever Seyval Blanc, 2018 Helios Estate (grown from the first-ever planting in the Willamette Valley—in our Chehalem Mountains AVA vineyard), has been scored a 90 by Dr. Owen Bargreen.
Bargreen, a Level 2 Sommelier from the Court of Master Sommeliers who writes for both Washington Wine Blog and International Wine Report, had this to say:
2018 Bells Up ‘Helios’ Seyval Blanc – The owners of Bells Up have planted the first acreage of Seyval Blanc in Oregon and this is the first release of this limited production wine. On the nose the wine shows light citrus fruits and melon, with wild mushroom undertones. The texture to this wine is really good as juicy kiwi, unripe cantaloupe and suggestions of starfruit flavors all come together nicely once in the mouth. This would be a delightful pairing for sushi. Drink 2019-2024 – 90
