When we first visited Newberg back in 2008, our primary goal was to taste some world-class Pinot Noir. What we didn’t expect to discover, however, was how much we loved the town. Many of the features that drew us to Newberg were recently highlighted in Vacation Idea: Dream Vacation Magazine, which noted:
“To begin with, you will find yourself surrounded by an exceptionally beautiful countryside tucked between the Chehalem Mountains and the beautiful Willamette River. As far as the eye can see, this rural enclave is covered by scenic vineyards and dotted by dozens of wineries which produce some of the best wines in the world. In addition to exceptional wines, this part of the Yamhill Country has developed a solid reputation for delectable cuisine which attracts foodies from all over the continent and beyond. The area enjoys a very moderate climate which makes it ideal for fun outdoor activities.”
So it was quite a surprise to discover our teensy winery, among the smallest producers in Newberg (and home to one of those scenic vineyards in the Chehalem Mountains), was included the magazine’s recent article, “23 Best Things To Do In Newberg, Oregon.”
Here’s what they wrote about us (we’re #9 in the list of 23):
“Bells Up Winery represents a whole new career path for owners Dave Specter and Sara Pearson [Specter], who left the corporate world in 2012 to realize their dream of becoming wine-makers. The couple had long been enchanted with the Willamette Valley and knew for sure that this was where they wanted to establish their winery. The estate produced their first Pinot Noir harvest in 2017, which means that they are still very much the new kids on the block – always learning and experimenting. As a fledgling boutique winery, Bells Up invites visitors to come and taste their wines on site and join their (free) Fanfare Club, which gives members special access to limited-edition wines and discounts on annual purchases.”
Although we are new when it comes to producing estate Pinot Noir (our first Prelude Estate Rosé was made in 2017; our first Jupiter Estate Pinot Noir was made in 2018), we realized recently that this October — our 20th wedding anniversary — we will have been making wine for 15 years! Not sure that really qualifies us as “the new kids on the block.” But they got the “always learning and experimenting part” right for sure.
In any case, we’d love to share our joy and passion for Newberg and Oregon wine with you. Tastings are available seven days a week with four seatings hosted at 11am, 12:30pm, 2pm and 3:30pm (although we can occasionally accommodate other times). To experience a private, seated wine tasting hosted by Winemaker Dave exclusively for your group, call us at 503.537.1328 to reserve your seat at the table.
