Winery Reflections Praises “Unconventional and Astoundingly Fun” 2022 Prelude Rosé

Nathan and Courtney Marton — husband and wife wine reviewers from Southern California — routinely share their thoughts on different vintages. They’ve graciously reviewed several bottlings of our Bells Up estate “Brosé,” the Prelude Estate Rosé of Pinot Noir (they’ve previously said incredibly complimentary things about previous vintages from 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021). So of course we were delighted to hear what they thought of the 2022 Prelude.

Here’s their review:

Perfectly plump and expressive eruptions of farmstand strawberry, succulent peach, red cherry, and candy apple beam with outgoing and juicy delight within an attractively fresh yet full-throttle display. Wafts of blooming rose, cherry blossom, and petunia gleefully lift aromatics via radiant floral perfume that dances above interesting organic tones of pine needle and evergreen forest. Intriguing impressions of gravelly soil and stony minerality round out the display with a pleasant earthy kiss that does not distract from its fruit-packed and flavorful personality.

Irresistibly luscious, layered, and unique on the palate with surprising elegance found alongside impressive richness and power; exhibiting a tart and dry yet beautifully ripe presentation that possesses delicious refreshment alongside plenty of concentration and complexity. Full bodied with light tannin backed by lively acidity. This 2022 “Prelude” Estate Rosé of Pinot Noir by Bells Up Winery is an unconventional and astoundingly fun rosé from the Chehalem Mountains.

Although most rosé produced today is often made in a simple, light, and mineral style, there are a select few producers out there who strive to create rosé that is just as complex and serious as any other style of wine. This bottling, crafted by Bells Up Winery using Pinot Noir grown at their Willamette Valley estate vineyard, is an outstanding example of the depth and character that great rosé can possess.

This generously leaps from the glass with gobs of bright and juicy red fruits enhanced by perfumed floral tones, clean piney freshness, and delicious minerality. Although incredibly enjoyable today, this also possesses a surprisingly ageworthy structure and will likely continue to drink well for a number of years to come. Yum.

The 2022 Prelude is now sold out. However, Winemaker Dave is currently pouring our 2023 Fireworks Estate Rosé of Pinot Noir Brut — perfect for holiday celebrations! To sample the Pink Bubbles, contact us by phone at 503.537.1328 or email info@bellsupwinery.com today.
