We were thrilled, and surprised, to receive an “Outstanding!” review from Great Northwest Wine a few weeks ago for our 2014 Titan Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. But we were even more surprised when Eric Degerman, President and CEO of Great Northwest Wine nominated it to enter the fourth annual Great Northwest Wine Invitational Wine Competition.
Ultimately, our single entry was among more than 2,200 wines nominated, with nearly 600 wines judged by a panel of Pacific Northwest and West Coast wine professionals. The panelists swirled, sniffed, sipped and spit on October 5 and 6, 2016, with the final results posted on October 6 (coincidentally, Dave and Sara’s 15th wedding anniversary). It was a real thrill to discover that—in spite of the odds—the 2014 Titan was awarded a Silver Medal!
Here’s how the original Great Northwest Wine review described it:
David Specter fled a career as a corporate tax attorney and recently launched his winery along Bell Road near Newberg, Ore., in an impressive Chehalem Mountain neighborhood that includes Medici, Privé and Zimri. This young Pinot Noir even includes a contribution from Medici’s 25-year-old own-rooted Pommard planting, and the unfiltered juice offers fanciful aromas of fruit punch with strawberry, cranberry, cinnamon bark and cola. That theme translates onto the palate, which is approachable with additional hints of strawberry/rhubarb jam and raspberry acidity. There’s just enough grip within the juicy finish for suggestions of roasted duck, red meats, salmon and robust vegetable dishes.
